Went to Nandankanan Zoological Park which is 20km from cuttack yesterday. Its famous for its White Tiger and Gharial Breeding farm. The latter has closed down after the gharials were successfully reintroduced into the wild and about the white tiger saw just 2. Have no idea where the others were, probably at the the Tiger safari, which we were not able to visit.
The no of animals in the park has come down. Many have died and have not been replaced such as the gibbons. There were a few black panthers none were seen yesterday. Quite a few more were not seen as they were sleeping inside their chamber.
The main attraction here is still the white tiger, chimps, a lone orangutan, couple of rhinos, and the lion and tiger safari, the elephants which do rounds of the park blessing people, gharials(10-11 feet), the giant python which is supposed to be 20ft in length and of course the ropeway over the lake and the paddle boats.
But over all i would say that the the no and variety of animals have fallen.
